Kenya's Regional Air is to become an affiliate member of the oneworld alliance. The move follows Regional Air's signing of a franchise agreement with British Airways in the last two weeks, a deal that will make it BAs third franchisee in Africa and 11th franchisee overall. Under the franchise agreement, the airline will code-share with BA and offer a BA style service from 1 July. It will also dedicate one of its two 737-300s, both built in 1989 and leased from Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services to the BA franchise.

The deal will link the Kenyan capital Nairobi with Mombasa, Asmara in Eritrea; Dijbouti; Khartoum, Sudan; Harare, Zimbabwe; and Lusaka, Zambia.

The eight oneworld member carriers and their 23 affiliates will then serve 565 destinations across 135 countries.
