Allegiant Air has purchased four Airbus A320s formerly operated by Alitalia, as part of its effort to accelerate the retirement of its Boeing MD-80 fleet.
The aircraft will join the Las Vegas-based carrier's fleet by the end of the year, a third quarter financial filing shows.
The A320s were purchased from a lessor and were previously operated by Alitalia, a source familiar with the transaction says.
The Flight Fleets Analyzer shows Allegiant acquired one former Alitalia A320 (MSN 2932) from UK-based Aircraft Leasing & Management (ALM) in October. The lessor has three more A320s at Alitalia (MSNs 2995, 3076 and 3079).
Allegiant executives said in October that the airline planned to close on deals to acquire five A320 family aircraft shortly.
The carrier announced plans to retire the MD-80s by the end of 2018, a year earlier than previous plans, with its third quarter earnings in October.
Allegiant operates 21 Airbus A319s, 28 A320s, three Boeing 757-200s and 43 MD-80s, Fleets Analyzer shows.
