Indonesia’s Lion Air will place an order for 40 additional ATR 72-600 turboprops.
A source close to the airline confirmed to Flightglobal that the deal, valued at around $1 billion will be signed today. Flightglobal earlier reported that the agreement is expected to be signed at the Italian prime minister's official residence.
No further details about the deal were disclosed.
The additional turboprops are likely to be operated Malindo Air, Thai Lion Air and Wings Air. Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database shows the three carriers operate 42 ATR 72s between them.
Prior to today's order, Lion had 18 ATR 72-600s in its backlog.
