SpiceJet has announced an order for 42 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, becoming Boeing's first Indian customer for the type.
The deal, worth $4.4 billion at list prices, was previously allocated to an unidentified customer in Boeing's order book.
Delivery of the aircraft will start from 2018. The deal was announced at the India Aviation Exhibition at Hyderabad,
Boeing had earlier told Flightglobal that it had planned to announce an Indian order for the Max at the Singapore air show.
Flightglobal’s Ascend Online Fleets database shows that SpiceJet has a fleet of 43 737NGs in service, with orders for a further 17. It also has 15 Bombardier Q400 turboprops in its fleet.
