Mid-Continent Instruments has launched a new attitude and heading reference (AHRS) navigation system at AirVenture.

The AX1 Series AHRS is not only designed for the retrofit market, but also has been specified as a standard-fit for Vulcanair’s P68 TC Observer. Fully EASA-certified with FAA certification pending, the AX1 provides primary and redundant attitude heading reference to glass panel retrofit installations for both experimental and certified aircraft. Todd Winter, president of Mid-Continent, says the AHRS can be linked to any glass panel with open architecture – such as Sagem or Aerosonic PFDs.

“At only £12,010, this certified and compatible product is great value. A similar type will cost as much as $40,000,” says Winter.

The AX1 utilizes enhanced performance Kalman Filter algorithms, high stability MEMS technology and is ‘solid-state’ and, therefore, unaffected by high-vibration environments.

The product will be available to customers for retrofit by November this year.

Winter says an AX2 AHRS model, designed to be compatible with ARINC 429 two-wire data bus for commercial and transport aircraft, is expected in 2009.
