BRS – Ballistic Recovery Systems is looking to the future with its 5000 series parachute. The 5000 series can support 5,000lb airplanes and would give BRS a break into the potentially huge VLJ market.

Although still awaiting certification from the FAA, Gary Moore, vice president sales and marketing, believes the system will be ready to service heavier aircraft within a year. However, there could be engineering challenges as the current systems are specifically designed for fixed-gear aircraft.

“We would love to get OEMs on board,” says Moore. Although he is tight-lipped as to prospects, the company says it will aggressively market the system.
To date BRS parachute systems have “saved” 213 lives. The company has sold around 29,000 systems.

As of Monday, Cessna 172/182 owners can have an authorized service facility install the BRS system for their aircraft.
