The world’s first satellite messenger – the SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker – is being introduced to the general aviation market at AirVenture.

The hand-held device functions anywhere in the world, tracking the user’s location via GPS and enabling them to let family, friends, associates and even emergency responders know where they are.

“The expansion of SPOT into aviation was a surprise, but the product has been a great hit,” says Derek Moore, SPOT marketing and public relations.

Aviation applications for SPOT include tracking flight paths to share with others or review later online. Flight schools can even track students on cross-country flights, providing constant location data at all times.

As part of a special promotion, EAA members can receive a SPOT unit free, valued at $169, if they sign up for SPOT basic service and tracking.
