Jeppesen has entered into an agreement with Rockwell Collins to allow its charts and data to be automatically transferred electronically using the latter's Ascend aircraft information manager (AIM) system.
"This agreement with Jeppesen takes yet another step out of the data loading and update process," says Greg Irmen, Collins' vice-president for flight information solutions.
AIM is designed to ensure that aircraft equipped with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line cockpit are always using the latest data.
The agreement enables pilots' to receive Jeppesen's electronic charts and flight management system wirelessly in their aircraft, along as navigation, performance and V-speed databases and checklist files.
Operator flight departments would be able to monitor uploads via the AIM subscription service, Collins says.
The AIM system also automatically sends email or text notifications whenever the aircraft's databases require attention or when updates are uploaded, simplifying record keeping.
