The Philippine air force (PAF) has completed the first upgrade anywhere in Asia of a Bell UH-1H helicopter to Huey II standard. The PAF completed the work package at Clark Air Base in Pampanga.

A fleet of 30 UH-1Hs currently performs a number of military support roles for the air force. Bell says the addition of a Huey II aircraft will give the PAF a substantial increase in capability for the 505th Search and Rescue Wing, as well as operating costs that are one-third lower.

The PAF Huey II will be capable of deploying to a range of almost 300nm (550km) with a crew of two and 11 troops.
