In a clear sign of the impact low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific is having on its business, Philippine Airlines has introduced a no-frills offering on many of its flights. PAL has introduced the discount-priced PAL EconoLight Class on all of its domestic jet services as well as selected short-range intra-Asia services.
The new product is offered within its existing economy class. Passengers will pay much less and will not be entitled to the same frills as those paying for standard economy.
The offering is clearly aimed at rival Cebu Pacific, a fast-growing low-cost carrier that has been eating into PAL's market share. PAL says simply that EconoLight is "aimed at the budget segment of the market".
