Swiss engine filter specialist Pall is embarking on a plan to offer systems to extend the working life of six- to 12-seat commercial turboprops operating in harsh conditions.

Pall, which supplies filtration units for several armed forces’ helicopter fleets, including those of the UK and USA, has begun serial production of its Centrisep engine air particle separator (EAPS) filter for the Pilatus PC-6 Porter, six years after receiving its supplementary type certificate (STC).

Pall has started serial production of Pilatus PC-6 Porter engine filters

The company initially rejected commercialising the product due to a lack of demand but, following market analysis, it now believes there could be a market of around 200 units a year among small commercial operators based in sandy, salty or icy climates.

Pall has started work on a version of the EAPS for the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, and the company expects to receive an STC next year.

The Cessna Caravan family and Raytheon Beech 1900D are also planned to follow.
