Pan Am expects the final step in its merger with Carnival Airlines - bringing all the operations under the 'PA' flight prefix - will give an immediate boost to revenues.

The completion of the operational merger yesterday comes none too soon for Pan Am, which has just announced a $21.1-million third-quarter net loss and a net deficit of $52.7 million for the first nine months of the year.

Jeff Kriendler, Pan Am director of corporate communications, says the airline is not disclosing details, but believes the positive effect of unifying the flight prefix will be "substantial."
