PRATT & WHITNEY (P&W) is to establish an advanced-technology development centre in Abu Dhabi to support its bid to supply engines for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) fighter programme. P&W's F100-229 engine is being offered on the Lockheed Martin F-16C/D and McDonnell Douglas F-15E in competition with the General Electric F110-129.

P&W has teamed with Battelle Memorial Institute to create the centre, which will provide science and technology services with the aim of establishing businesses in the UAE to satisfy P&W's offset obligations if an F100-powered fighter wins the competition. Areas to be pursued include energy, environment and manufacturing.
