Turkish Airlines maintenance division Turkish Technic’s engine overhaul joint venture with Pratt & Whitney will be located on a greenfield site on the eastern side of Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport.

Construction will commence later this year and the first engine will be inducted in 2009, said P&W Global Services Partners’ senior VP, Jim Keenan, at a Singapore Airshow press conference today to announce the site.

The joint venture is to be known as the P&W Turkish Technic Aircraft Engine Maintenance Centre.

Keenan says Turkish Airlines will be the engine overhaul firm’s launch customer. The carrier uses both CFM International CFM56 and International Aero Engines V2500 powerplants, the types the overhaul firm will specialise in servicing.

Later it may add other engine types to its service offering, says Keenan, who declines to specify which types of engines might be considered.

The P&W Turkish Technic Aircraft Engine Maintenance Centre will target airline customers in Europe, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union, he adds.

P&W says in a statement today that the centre will be capable of overhauling up to 200 engines a year. Turkish Technic and P&W signed a memorandum of understanding in late 2006 to set up the base.
