Pilatus Aircraft flew a proof-of-concept prototype of its PC-21 turboprop tactical trainer in May, Pratt & Whitney Canada president Gilles Quimet has revealed.

But Pilatus maintains the aircraft, equipped with a high-power P&WC PT6A-68 turboprop, will remain "top secret" until it is unveiled later this year.

Quimet says the first production example will be delivered in the second quarter of next year.

Details of the PC-21 are sparse. Meggitt Avionics says it had been selected to provide secondary flight displays.
