Rockwell Collins (hall 4, B17) has plunged into the crowded waters of the civil airline training market with its Core flight simulation system, showing at Paris for the first time.

The company announced its launch sale of the system to UK training group CTC Aviation just before the show.

Rockwell has taken up the challenge of producing a modular simulation system that can keep costs down by using common components to configure the solution the customer wants. CTC wanted two Boeing 737 next generation full-flight simulators, but the Core system can offer simulation at all levels for other types also.

Rockwell is, however, knowingly entering a busy market. Mechtronix offers modular training solutions more or less as its trademark; Thales launched into the arena with its modular RealitySeven system early this year; and simulation giant CAE is treading the same path.

Also demonstrated on Rockwell Collins' stand this year is an interactive display of its Pro Line Fusion integrated avionics suite aimed at the business and regional aircraft market, and its head-up guidance system designed to help pilots in poor visibility situations.

Not to be outdone for interactive opportunities, visitors to the stand can take part in animated battlefield scenarios from Iraq and Afghanistan that demonstrate the company's multiple battlefield tools, from munitions targeting systems to aircraft control.
