Budget operator AirAsia is intending to order another 14 Airbus A320s, taking its overall orders for the family close to 600.
The airline disclosed the agreement during the Paris air show.
AirAsia says the tentative contract is still subject to approval from its board.
It has not indicated an engine selection for the jets, but AirAsia is a strong customer for the CFM International CFM56.
The deal would take the number of A320-family jets ordered by the operator to 592.
It has so far received 171 A320s and eight of the re-engined A320neo, powered by the CFM Leap-1A.
"Robust demand has led us to expanding our fleet," says group chief Tony Fernandes. "Airbus has been a great partner in finding us slots."
Fernandes says that, despite the additional planned order, the carrier "still needs to find more aircraft" and has turned to the leasing market. "The competitive environment is at its best, coupled with a stable oil price," he says.
