AirAsia X expects to take delivery of its first Airbus A330neo in 2019.
The re-engined twinjet's arrival has been "slightly delayed", AirAsia Group chief executive Tony Fernandes tells FlightGlobal.
When the carrier placed a tentative order for the A330neo at 2014's Farnborough air show – where the programme was formally launched – AirAsia X envisioned receiving the aircraft in 2018.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that the carrier has 66 A330-900neos and 10 A350-900s on order.
Airbus has previously indicated the A330neo is set to take off for its first flights toward "end of the summer", potentially as late as September.
First delivery to launch operator TAP Portugal is targeted for spring 2018.
