AgustaWestland and CAE have launched their long-awaited Rotorsim training joint venture, and will begin construction of a training centre in Sesto Calende, Italy, in anticipation of an order for A109 helicopters from Italian military and paramilitary customers. The centre will open in 2005.

The first device in the four-bay facility will be a CAE-built simulator for the commercial A109 Power and A109 Light Utility Helicopter (LUH). The convertible simulator will have interchangeable roll-on/roll-off cabs for the Power and LUH. The second device is likely to be a convertible simulator for commercial and military versions of the Bell Agusta Aerospace AB139, says Andy Morris, executive vice-president, marketing and strategy, for CAE's military division.
