French president Nicolas Sarkozy shares a joke with Serge Dassault at the opening of the 49th Paris air show yesterday. Neither the rain nor the missing Airbus A380 dampened the spirits of the assembled dignitaries too much as they watched the Airbus A400M on its flypast and the remarkable Eurocopter high-speed hybrid X3 helicopter. The mood of the show brightened even further as the day wore on as the order announcements mounted up and Korean Air stepped in to fly its A380, to the delight of the crowds.
