Airbus has approved the "break-in for fit" of the Thales/Smiths Aerospace flight management system for the Airbus A320 family. Air France is starting a retrofit programme, while America West and Northwest Airlines are also due to begin fitting the system this year. A more than 15,000h in-service evaluation with Alitalia and Frontier Airlines ran between October last year and February. At the same time, Smiths has completed initial deliveries of its updated electrical load management system (ELMS2) to Boeing for the two 777-300ER flight-test aircraft.
