Pratt & Whitney Canada has carried out the first run of its PW980A auxiliary power unit (APU) for the Airbus A380. The powerplant is the world's largest commercial APU and is being designed by the Canadian company and Hamilton Sundstrand's Power Systems (HSPS) division. HSPS is designing the load gearbox, control system and accessories. Certification is planned for March 2005 and service entry the year after.
