UTC Aerospace Systems and Embraer have demonstrated a new, lighter electric braking system on an Embraer ERJ-145 regional jet after 18 months of preparation.
The companies tested electrically actuated brakes and electro-mechanical actuator controllers as part of Embraer's More Electric Aircraft (MEA) study.
"This was a great opportunity for us to validate our next generation electric braking technology while enhancing the long term partnership we enjoy with Embraer," said Jim Wharton, president, wheels and brakes, UTC Aerospace Systems.
The aircraft manufacturer says it is satisfied with the test results.
"The UTC Aerospace Systems next-generation electric brake demonstration was a success," says Emilio Matsuo, chief engineer at Embraer. "The product performed as advertised, with favourable comments from the test pilots and the overall programme gives us confidence in the technology."
