In just five years Volvo Aero has grown from virtually no presence to become a dominant player in the large fan case business, said Henrik Runnelmalm, director research & technology advanced engineering at the company.

Volvo Aero is showing a fan case for General Electric's GEnx-1B, the first time it has shown this piece of technology at an air show. Volvo Aero is ramping up production of the GEnx fan case at its Connecticut factory.

The latest addition to Volvo Aero Connecticut's fan case business is the Engine Alliance GP7000, one of the engine choices on the Airbus A380. Volvo also manufactures the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 fan case, another engine option for the A380.

"We are both pleased and proud to have secured agreements with all the major OEM engine manufacturers on fan cases for each of their new engine platforms. This is exactly what we have worked towards achieving in our expansion plans," said Joakim Andersson, president of Volvo Aero Connecticut.

The company said it is pursuing additional fan case opportunities and expects new agreements executed in the near future.
