Keeping an eye on passenger safety will become easier with Parker Aerospace's (Hall 5, E20) new cabin video monitoring system (CVMS).

Airbus will be pre-wiring the system into the A380, giving operators the option of installing the cameras to monitor activity throughout the aircraft. Parker will design, integrate and produce all system components, including cameras, area distribution units, data acquisition units and video display software.

Parker cabin monitoring system

"This is the first time a fully-networked colour video cabin monitoring system has been available for commercial transport aircraft," says marketing director Martin Hewitt. Parker's CVMS is built around a flexible, expandable architecture that can be reconfigured to operators' specific requirements, including cockpit door and freight monitoring.

Up to 100 cameras can be networked in each aircraft. The wall or flush-mounted cameras are electronically steerable and can also relay sound.

Relay

Fibre optic ethernet relay ensures the integrity of data and prevents interference from other aircraft systems. From a centralised server, audio and video can be distribution throughout the aircraft.

Cabin crew can view any camera or group of cameras on their networked touch screen displays. Images can also be viewed on demand from the cockpit. The images are relayed to touch screen panels which can be viewed by cabin crew. Five minutes of pictures and audio are recorded by every camera as an 'alarm buffer'.

Images can be stored on the optional digital video recorder and played back on any compatible PC, laptop or network client. The CVMS is just one of Parker's contributions to the A380. The company is also supplying the fuel quantity and management system.
