The way to a man's heart may traditionally be through his stomach, but when it comes to the hearts and minds of business travellers it seems it's their bottoms that hold the key.

The battle to hold position in the business- and first-class travel markets has seen airlines striving to offer comfort as part of their package. As a result manufacturers have been forced to make major improvements to seat design.

P L Porter Controls, a leading manufacturer of position control systems, knows that it's not just size that matters. Bigger seats are only part of the solution.

The German company is using the show to announce new products designed to improve a passenger's comfort but it's also stressing its ability to offer that comfort at reduced ownership costs.

Says Heinz Mehler, business manager, aviation systems: "Seats are a good differentiator for airlines if they are reliable, simple to operate and easy to maintain.

"Our new airline passenger power system (ALPPS) meets these criteria while reducing total cost of ownership to the airlines."

By using a modular design, he claims the company has produced a sophisticated system which can cut cost per flight hour and of course it meets the specifications of Boeing and Airbus.

For the airline that really feels that creature comfort is the key to attracting business customers, P L Porter has the pneumatic lumbar and massage system.
