Malta's prime minister Joseph Muscat has confirmed that all passengers and crew have been released from a hijacked Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A320 which landed in the country earlier today.
In a Twitter posting, Muscat states that the hijackers surrendered, were searched, and have been taken into custody.
He had earlier chronicled the release of 109 passengers and an unspecified number of crew from the aircraft, before posting: "Final crew members leaving aircraft with hijackers."
The aircraft had been operating a domestic flight from Sebha in central Libya to Tripoli before its diversion to Malta.
