US under secretary of state for political affairs, Thomas Pickering, will join Boeing as senior vice president (VP), international relations, when he leaves government in January. Sabina Biran has been named president of Israir, becoming the first woman to run an Israeli airline. She takes over from Israel Harel, joining from US carrier Tower Air, which used to fly to Tel Aviv. Engine repair specialist Snecma Services has named Alain Domeon as director, industrial strategy. He is replaced as director of the Saint Quentin-en-Yvelines plant by Pierre-Emmanuel Gires. L-3 Communications has confirmed acting president, space and navigation, Paul Wengen, in this post. Northrop Grumman has promoted Lance Newquist to vice president, business management, and Philip Teel to VP airborne early warning and electronic warfare systems, within its Integrated Systems Sector. Hughes Electronics chairman and former Hughes Aircraft chief Michael Smith has joined the board of Teledyne Technologies. Saab Aircraft Leasing's marketing subsidiary for the Americas, US-based SALI, has named Ron Peverill as senior VP airline sales and Donald Kamenz as VP airline sales for Canada. John Sterne joins from Embraer as VP US airline sales, while Gena Laurent becomes senior VP, finance and commercial. Timothy Vastine is to be the engine programme director for engine parts supplier AirLiance Materials, formed by United Airlines, Air Canada and Lufthansa Technik. He joins from Pratt & Whitney. Lufthansa Boeing 737 pilot Florian Hamm is to head Lufthansa Flight Training, replacing Rolf Kiess.
