Air Canada has appointed Calin Rovinescu executive vice-president (VP) corporate development and strategy. Rovinescu advised the airline on resisting a takeover bid by Onex, and on the acquisition of Canadian Airlines. BAE Systems has named Allan Cook as group managing director (MD), programmes and Eurofighter, replacing Steve Mogford, now one of two group chief operating officers (COO). Chris Geoghegan, formerly an advisor to Airbus Industrie president Noel Forgeard, replaces Cook as group MD, avionics. Andrew Cahn, one-time number two to European Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock, joins British Airways in June as director of government and industry affairs, a new post. Boeing Capital has named Steve Williamson VP commercial finance, replacing Daniel Anderson, who is to retire. Ex-Britten Norman chief executive (CEO) Paul Bartlett has joined kit-plane company Europa Aircraft as project director. The UK companies are due to link up on a new light aircraft. Canadian aerostructures specialist Avcorp Industries has appointed John Nicholson president and CEO. Nicholson, a former Rolls-Royce engineer, was previously president of aero-engine test equipment company Cade Cenco. Leo Mondale, formerly of failed satellite venture Iridium, is now executive VP at the Washington DC office of Arianespace. GE's Garrett Aviation has promoted Allyn Robinson to COO. He was previously general manager at the airframe and engine maintenance specialist's Long Island facility. Gulfstream Aerospace has named Mark Burns VP customer programme management. He was previously director of information services with the General Dynamics subsidiary. Eric Zahler is appointed president and COO of satellite specialist Loral Space & Communications, as well as vice-chair of Globalstar Telecomms.
