America West Airlines has elected John Ryan as vice-president of line maintenance for its fleet of 142 aircraft. Michael Vorwerk is taking charge of global partner and key account management at Lufthansa Cargo. He is currently manager of the airline's cargo development project. Xabier de Irala, president of Iberia Airlines, has been named president of the International Air Transport Association. United Airlines has appointed DaimlerChrysler Aviation president Thomas Davis as chief operating officer of its new business jet subsidiary. Roger Hawksworth has been appointed secretary general of the European Association of Aerospace Industries. He joins from BAE Systems where he was chief of staff. Chief executive of Swissair Group's charter airline Balair, Catherine Stalker, is to step down as the Swiss company continues to reorganise its operations. Polar Air Cargo has hired former FedEx executive Mike Snyder as chief operating officer, responsible for flight operations, terminal services, maintenance, engineering, planning, scheduling and safety. Keith Robinson has been appointed managing director of Aim Aviation. Mirko Zgela has been appointed vice-president of engineering at Canadian aerospace company Innotech Execaire. Other appointments include Kenneth Dandy as vice-president and general manager, and Dave Calam as manager of technical sales at the company's Pacific Avionics and Instruments subsidiary. Sergio Aguirre has joined the Securaplane Technologies to oversee corporate aviation sales. Patrick Strasburger has joined Spirit Airlines as vice-president of ground operations, while Marc Cavalier is appointed vice-president of sales and marketing. Yugoslav flag carrier JAT has appointed Srdjan Vukcevic as general manager and chief executive.
