Smiths Group has named Donald Brydon as its new chairman, to succeed current chairman Keith Orrell-Jones when he retires in September. Brydon is chairman of UK pharmaceuticals manufacturer Amersham. Airservices Australia chairman John Forsyth has resigned. His deputy Les Fisher succeeds him on an acting basis. FedEx has named Cathy Ross chief financial officer of its Express air cargo division. Lt Gen (retd) Tony Sun has taken over as chairman of Taiwan's Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation. Sun was formerly deputy commander in chief of the Taiwanese army. Publisher James Packer, chairman of Australian press group PBL, has joined Qantas as a non-executive director. Former Pentagon chief of staff Robert Tyrer has joined EDO as a director. The president of Northrop Grumman's information technology business Herb Anderson will move to become vice-president in charge of special projects on 1 May, before retiring on 1 November. His replacement at the information technology division will be James O'Neill. Peter Hunt is to replace Gordon McRobbie, who is retiring, as director of the UKAirprox Board, which investigates near-miss incidents.
