* South African Airways has appointed former Aer Lingus and LanChile executive Kyrl Acton as chief operating officer to help turn around the ailing national carrier. SAA chief executive Khaya Ngqula describes Acton as " a seasoned aviation executive, with a successful 25-year track record working with some of the most prominent airlines in the developing world". Acton most recently worked for information technology firm Unisys as vice-president transportation for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

* Europrop International has appointed Ignacio Mataix chairman of the board for two years. He replaces Jean-Paul Herteman. Mataix has been chief executive of Industria de Turbo Propulsores of Spain since December 2004.
