Gulf Air and Philippine Airlines (PAL) have begun codesharing on flights between Abu Dhabi and Manila.

PAL says the codeshare deal gives it a seat and cargo allocation on each of Gulf Air¹s two non-stop flights per week on the route.

The Philippine national carrier says the joint service agreement is its sixth, the others _being passenger codeshare arrangements with EgyptAir, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines and Kuwait Airways, and a cargo capacity arrangement with Lufthansa.

PAL adds that the partnership with Bahrain-based Gulf Air expands its Middle East network to five points in three countries. It also serves Cairo, Dhahran, Dubai and Riyadh either on its own or through codeshares.

The carrier entered into receivership in mid 1998 under a debt of more than $2 billion and under a rehabilitation plan approved by major creditors last year it has cut its fleet and route network.

While it has launched a handful of new international services since the plan was approved PAL has focused network expansion targets on route-specific codeshare or similar agreements.
