The Israeli air force has declared its Rafael-produced Spice bomb guidance kit as its "best precision weapon", and revealed that the system can be pre-programmed with satellite imagery of up to 100 potential targets. An air force source says the system's TV/imaging infrared sensor and automatic target acquisition capability have provided "unprecedented accuracy" during combat operations with types including the Lockheed Martin F-16.

The kit's range extension capabilities enable Mk 84 907kg (2,000lb) bombs to strike ground targets more than 60km (32nm) from their release point, with design efforts now aimed at extending this performance and of bettering a range of over 100km using a Mk 83 453kg bomb. The GPS/INS-guided Spice kit was also earlier this year selected by the Greek air force.
