Mexicana says none of the 92 passengers and four crew members on board Click flight 7222 were injured last night when the aircraft performed a main gear-up landing in Monterrey. Click is Mexicana's low fare unit.
The Fokker 100 (XA-SHJ) was flying from Mexico City to Nuevo Laredo when the crew discovered a problem with the main landing gear as it approached the airport. According to news reports, both main landing gear failed to extend.
The pilots diverted to Monterrey given its longer runway and "the installed capacity of emergency response teams," said Mexicana in a statement. Passengers exited the aircraft on the runway after the landing.
Mexicana is in the process of phasing out its leased Fokker 100 aircraft with 25 leased Boeing 717s, a transition it hopes to complete by year's end. Flightglobal's ACAS fleet database shows Click as currently having 15 717s and 19 Fokker 100s.
In December, a Merpati Nusantara Fokker 100 (PK-MJD) made an emergency landing in west Timor after its left main landing gear failed to deploy.
