Qantas Airways has unveiled its new business class seat that will be progressively rolled out on its Airbus A330s from later this year.
The airline has chosen a customised version of Thompson Aero Seating’s Vantage XL seat, designed in collaboration with Marc Newson. They will be configured in a 1-2-1 layout on all 28 of the airline’s A330s, which operate on Asian, Hawaiian and domestic routes.

“A key point of difference from all other carriers is that the seat can be in recline and fitted with the mattress from take-off right through to landing. With many business passengers enjoying a meal in the lounge prior to travelling, this means more time to rest and sleep,” says chief executive Alan Joyce.
The seats will be rolled out through a cabin refurbishment on the A330s that will commence in November at Qantas’s heavy maintenance facility in Brisbane.
Qantas will also fit its internationally configured aircraft with new Recaro economy seats and the Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system throughout the cabin. Both international and domestic aircraft will also be fitted with wireless streaming entertainment systems.
The first refurbished A330 will enter service in late December on domestic routes, followed one month later by the first internationally-configured aircraft.
The refit programme is expected to be completed by mid-2016.
