Singapore Airlines has unveiled its new premium economy class seat.
The new seats, designed by JPA Design, will be put into commercial service on 9 August, initially on the Singapore-Sydney route. Other destinations including Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London and New York will progressively feature the class as it is rolled out across its 19 Boeing 777-300ERs, 19 Airbus A380s and 20 of the 70 A350-900s it has on order.
The A380s will feature 36 premium economy seats, the 777-300ERs 28, and 24 on the A350s in a 2-4-2 layout.
ZIM Flugsitz is the supplier for the seats on the A380 and 777, while Zodiac will supply the seats for the A350s.
The development programme for the premium economy class spanned two years and an investment of about $80 million, says the carrier.
"Many of our customers have been asking for a premium economy offering and we are confident that what we are delivering will exceed their expectations," says SIA's executive vice-president of commercial, Mak Swee Wah.
As part of the premium economy product, SIA will also offer passengers a slightly higher baggage allowance, as well as a wider range of meals and beverages compared to regular economy.
