The Spanish Army’s first three Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopters have arrived at Coronel Sánchez Bilbao military base in Almagro.
The arrival of the helicopters follows the completion of training of eight Spanish pilots and 16 maintenance technicians at the Le Luc military base in France.
The Spanish army is due to receive another three Tigers in the initial configuration followed by an additional 18 upgraded helicopters equipped with air-to-ground missiles, uprated engines, IFF and electronic warfare systems, and enhanced ballistic protection.
These will be assembled from 2008 at a new production line in Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha.
Composite tail booms for all Tigers are currently manufactured in Spain.
The Australian, French, German and Spanish armed forces have ordered a total of 206 Tigers, of which 24 are in service.
