Following the christening of Lufthansa's newest Airbus A380 "Wien" at Austrain Airlines Vienna hub on 22 August, the aircraft took part in a quick reaction alert training exercise with two Austrian air force Eurofighter Typhoons.

The Eurofighters, scrambled from their base in Zeltweg/Styria, intercepted and flew in formation with the A380 as they escorted it through Austrian airspace.

Austria has an active fleet of 15 single-seat Typhoons, with the Tranche 1 aircraft having been delivered between 2004 and 2008.
