The first of the US Air Force’s planned 111 upgraded C-5M Super Galaxy strategic transports was rolled out at Lockheed Martin’s Marietta, Georgia plant last week.
Equipped with four General Electric CF6-80C2 turbofans producing 22% more thrust than the C-5A/B’s original GE TF39s, the modified C-5M is expected to be in USAF service until 2040. Its new cockpit includes flat panel displays and enhanced navigation and communications equipment.
