SriLankan Airlines has retired its Airbus A340-300 fleet after 21 years in service.
The type operated its last flight on the Chennai-Colombo route on 7 January, says the Oneworld alliance carrier.

The A340s, which were first delivered in September 1994, replaced the airline's long-serving Lockheed L-1011 TriStars. The airline adds that as well as operating passenger services, the type was also used to transport aid to Sri Lanka after the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster in 2004.
Flightglobal’s Fleets Analyzer database shows that SriLankan operated seven Airbus A340-300s at its peak. The airline progressively wound down its fleet during 2015, as more A330-300s were added to its fleet.
Fleets Analyzer also shows that the airline also has seven A350-900s on order, and two A321s.
