NEW PIPER AIRCRAFT is conducting a major market-research project during 1996, with a view to launching new aircraft types beginning in 1997.

The company, which has recently undergone a major re-organisation to emerge from bankruptcy protection, says that it realises the need to introduce new products to meet the demands of the next generation of general-aviation-aircraft buyers. In particular, Piper says, it needs to replace its Cherokee line of piston-singles.

During 1996, Piper's research and design engineers will conduct an examination of potential competitors - looking particularly at newer types of aircraft introduced in recent months - and use that information to define its new products over the next five years.
