Porter Airlines is considering launching operations to asecond New York City area airport after it increases frequencies on its current Newark-Toronto service.
The airline intends to add extra capacity on that city pair in the next 12 months, Porter president and CEO Robert Deluce said during a CIBC investors conference on 23 September.
Porter presently connects Newark with Toronto seven times during the week, with reduced weekend service.
After the airline fills out its Newark schedule, "there's going to be at least one other New York airport we access" he says.
Facilities under consideration include LaGuardia and Westchester County airport, roughly 30 miles (48.3 km) northeast of New York City in White Plains, New York.
In addition to more New York destinations, Porter remains interested in Philadelphia and the Washington, DC area.
Deluce says he anticipates adding one or both of those cities to the carrier's schedule within the next year.
As the Bombardier Q400 operator expands its network, the airline may add to its fleet.
The carrier currently operates15 turboprops, with three more deliveries scheduled this year, followed by the final two aircraft around April 2010 from a 20 aircraft order that initially consisted of 10 firm and 10 options. Porter has exercised all of its options.
"It is quite possibePorter will place a follow on order to continue our growth track," Deluce says.
