Elta Systems has been awarded a $10 million contract by Lockheed Martin as part of an upgrade programme for the Portuguese air force's P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft.
The Portuguese defence ministry gave Lockheed a $141 million contract in 2008 to upgrade the mission system avionics on its five P-3Cs maritime surveillance aircraft.
Under its new award, Israel Aerospace Industries subsidiary Elta will deliver five EL/M-2022 A(V)3 radars before the end of this year.
Flightglobal's MiliCAS database details Portugal's P-3Cs as having been delivered between 1981 and 1984. The nation's air force also has one older P-model Orion in use, it says.
