Flight International online news 11:30GMT: EADS Astrium has launched the latest addition to its range of advanced naval satellite communications terminals, MiniSCOT.

.EADS SCOT - BIG

The latest terminal, with an antenna size of 1m, has been optimised for use on smaller ships such as offshore patrol and mine countermeasures vessels, as well as applications on larger support ships.

The MiniSCOT terminal is based on EADS Astrium’s family of SCOT terminals, typically used on frigates and command ships, which have been procured by 11 navies  worldwide.

Following successful sea trials, the first MiniSCOT system is now in full operational use with the Portuguese Navy, providing communications to the support ship, NRP Berrio, whilst on national and NATO deployments.

The terminal is configured to use capacity provided by the Skynet series of SHF satellites, operated under contract by Paradigm Secure Communications, with the operation monitored and supported locally, by EADS SPACE’s representative, Pinto Basto Electrotecnia e Maquinas Lda.
