Massive power cuts hit eastern Canada and north-east USA last week, blacking out Detroit, New York, Toronto and much of the surrounding country from 16.00 on Thursday 14 August. Airports in Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Erie, New York (Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark), Ottawa, Toronto and others were affected, with most flights into or out of the region cancelled.
