It was the Pratt & Whitney press conference, but it might well have been described as a pow-wow of powerplant PRs.

Tucked somewhat sheepishly on a back row of the press conference room were the public relations officers of BMW Rolls-Royce, General Electric and International Aero Engines. P&W president Karl Krapek, who was briefing journalists on his company's four new engine programmes, was unfazed and even gracious in the face of such unabashed interest by potential rivals.

He even invited some of them to help answer reporters' questions. P&W's own PR, Mark Sullivan, was on hand to check those answers.
