The UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency and Rockwell Collins have completed a two-year development and test programme of a global positioning system receiver contained in a 155mm artillery shell.

The Low Cost Course Correction Module (LCCCM) programme demonstrated the ability of a GPS system to acquire and track satellite signals while inside a spin-stabilised shell. The receivers survived a shock of more than 15,000g on launch and began acquiring signals within three seconds.
