Bombardier has introduced an avionics enhancement for the Challenger 604 business jet.

The PrecisionPlus upgrade, now standard in new production aircraft and available via service bulletin to existing operators, is designed to reduce pilot workload and improve crew situational awareness.

Swiss air ambulance operator REGA has ordered three Challenger 604s equipped with the system. The first two aircraft are scheduled for delivery in June, with the third expected in November. Swiss company Aerolite Max Bucher will supply the medical equipment for the aircraft, which includes two intensive care stations.

The PrecisionPlus upgrade has been developed by Rockwell Collins as an enhancement to its Pro Line 4 avionics suite in the Challenger 604.

The basic package includes automatic look-up and display of reference speeds and thrust settings to reduce pilot workload. Other changes enhance flight planning, position reporting, polar navigation and flight management system (FMS) performance.

Optional features include FMS-computed long-range cruise speed and patterns; a three-dimensional flight-plan map display to improve crew situational awareness; and an expanded flight data recorder.
