THE US DEPARTMENT of Defense says that the General Atomics Predator unmanned air vehicle (UAV) is being sent to support NATO operations in Bosnia.
The Tier II UAV will be based at Gjader Airfield, Albania, for at least 60 days. About 100 US military and contractor personnel will be sent to operate three UAVs and a ground station.
"The Predator provides a low-risk, cost-effective reusable reconnaissance and surveillance plat- form," says a Pentagon spokesman.
The General Atomics GNAT 750, on which the Predator is based, was previously used to conduct operations over Bosnia.
